200-Hr Yoga Teacher Training Curriculum

Techniques, training and practice – 100 hrs

In this portion of the program you will explore a variety of practical and theoretical elements using Hatha as a foundation. Mornings will be filled with an intensive asana practice led by lead trainer Aly Nind. Afternoons will include gentle hatha, elements of alignment and posture, as well as pranayama and meditation. The remaining time will be spent on lectures covering topics of the day.

By learning a variety of yoga traditions you will be able to work with the myriad of students’ abilities that you will encounter as a teacher, and to deliver your knowledge from direct experience.

Through your own personal journey, you will enjoy the opportunity to go within and tap into the infinite potential of the body mind spirit connection, thus leading you to the true meaning of yoga – The path of self-realization.

Teaching Methodology – 25 hrs

This part of the program is very important and resonates deeply with Aly.Having a beautiful practice is one thing, being able to communicate effectively with students is another. You will learn a variety of teaching techniques, such as learning how to plan classes, build sequences, demonstrate postures, execute physical adjustments, use voice and verbal cues (English and Sanskrit) to transition from one posture to another and hold space for a variety of different emotions, physical injuries and limitations. Using props and modifying postures will also be covered. The importance of observation will be emphasized. The way your students move, the energy blocks in specific parts of the body and their facial expressions. By observing you learn how to approach them when it comes to verbal or physical cues and adjustments.

Towards the end of the program everyone will have an opportunity to practice what they’ve learned on the group.

Anatomy and Physiology – 20 hrs

It is important to have a good grasp of the physiology of the human body.We will explore physical (muscles, bones, fascia etc.) and energetic (chakras, nadis etc.) anatomy. Body systems (eg. nervous system, muscular system etc.), human kinetics and how all of these relate to the yoga practice. This will provide a comprehensive blueprint for all postures and clarify the effects of pranayama and meditation of the body.Having some background in anatomy will enhance your skill as a teacher and is an essential step to opening the doors to learning more about the fascinating capabilities of the body.

Yoga philosophy, lifestyle and ethics for yoga teachers- 30 hrs

Beyond stepping onto the mat there are ancient yoga traditions to learn that willhelp you navigate through life enhancing your relationships with yourself, your students and your global community. Within this category of the training we will be covering topics on Hindu mythology and the traditional teachings from the ancient scriptures of The Yoga Sutras, Hatha Yoga Pradipika and The Bhagavad Gita. Looking into these Vedic scriptures gives you insight into how much more there is to your yoga practice than the physical body. By learning the 8 limb path and applying it throughout your life you will be more confident with incorporating it into your classes without overwhelming your students and with opening their eyes, ears and hearts to a deeper meaning to your practice.

There will be at least 2 hours spent on the ethics of the teacher studentrelationship and how important this is when giving physical adjustments. One must respect people where they are at and acknowledge the space they need to heal and transform.

Practicum – 10 hrs

This training gives you an opportunity to practice teaching as a lead trainer. Sometimes the scariest part of being a new teacher is getting up in front of people. The more you practice within a supportive group the more confident you will become. This is a chance to receive and give feedback as well as observe others teach.

Electives will be interspersed throughout the program.  These will include kids, Ashtanga and pre-natal yoga practices. As well as discussing very basic Ayurvedic principles and variations for advanced postures. We may explore acro yoga if there is interest for it.
